We are running a selection of courses throughout the autumn, including various chainsaw courses, first aid, bats and trees and woodland management.

Course details are available on our Courses and Events page.

Courses are full-cost, with no subsidy option this year.

Please email karen@cumbriawoodlands.co.uk to request a booking form and further course information. Alternatively click a link below in supporting information.

One way to find out first about our upcoming courses is to join our mailing list!

In addition to our own training programme, we are working with Rusland Horizons to facilitate many of their exciting courses. The pdf below gives details of all the courses, dates, trainers and prices (which are subsidised!). Delivered by The Rusland Valley & Fells Landscape Partnership, Rusland Horizons is one of the first community-led Landscape Partnership schemes to be funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The scheme aims to restore and enhance the unique landscape of a wonderful part of South Lakeland. Courses are intended as an opportunity for individuals to develop or improve traditional skills and crafts that have maintained this landscape over the centuries. Are you interested in learning more about woodland management? Or maybe you have always wanted to try your hand at making your own greenwood furniture or learn how to make charcoal? Our clients say…

  • The knowledge gained has been priceless, the experience of relevant forestry topics will help to grow my business in my area of focussed expertise and that will be the ultimate value to me

  • I attended the the Introduction to Woodland Management course, and it was so good, and had such a positive effect on me, that only this week I have embarked upon a BSc in Forest and Woodland Management with the University of Cumbria, so I would say that was a successful intro!

  • The Cumbria Woodlands coppicing course was very well presented and the mix of practical and theory was just right. Lots of opportunity to practise the different skills on various coppice, great support and guidance delivered well with plenty of advice offered to those who wanted to know about coppicing for their own situations. Would like to do more of this as a refresher - thoroughly enjoyed and very good teachings - highly recommend.

  • Loved the CS 32/34 chainsaw 'windblow' course last week at beautiful Thirlmere. Learned how many bad chainsaw habits I've picked up it over the years!
